The Game Is Afoot at Your Library this summer for the Summer Library Program

Each year, throughout June and most of July, the Huntington City-Township Public Library hosts the Summer Library Program. The theme is different each summer, but the structure remains the same: all ages can participate, track their reading, attend special events centered around that year’s theme, earn and win prizes, and attend our summer wrap-up party at the end of July!

Summer Library Program runs May 27 through July 19 this year.

This year’s theme? “The Game Is Afoot at Your Library” in 2025, in honor of the great literary detective Sherlock Holmes. Calling all amateur detectives! Our special summer programming is steeped in mystery, with themed challenges, puzzles, scavenger hunts, and more.

How to track my reading? It’s easy! When you register, you’ll receive your “casebook,” a log to track your reading from May 27 through July 19. Reading is tracked in 15-minute increments.

What else do I get? In addition to the reading log, everyone (that includes children, teens, and adults) receives one free book as a gift from us to kickstart your reading! Enjoy the activities and events available to you throughout the summer, all at no charge.

Do I need a library card to participate? No, a library card is not required with us to participate in the Summer Library Program, but we encourage library card membership so you can check out books and other items from our collections. If you don’t already have a card, here’s a quick rundown on membership options:

  • Resident Card (3 years): You qualify for a free Huntington City-Township Public Library card if you live within the city of Huntington, Huntington Township, or the town of Markle since a portion of your property taxes already supports our library.
  • Non-resident Card (1 year): If you live outside our taxing district, you can purchase a 1-year membership with us for $108.50; this rate reflects the cost per capita of library service.
    • Want to try a library card but don’t want to commit to a whole year? We have 2-, 4-, and 6-month options! You could get a library card just for the summer at $18.10 for a 2-month membership or the cost would be $36.20 for a 4-month membership, or $54.25 for a 6-month membership.
  • School Cards (1 year): Any child under 18 attending pre-K through 12th grade or receiving some homeschool instruction within Huntington County, or any student attending Huntington University, qualifies for a free library card with us.

Finally, what about the prizes!? Bring in your casebook to have your reading logs stamped by library staff, then you can enter to win prize drawings (teens and adults only) or grab a prize right away from the Treasure Box (children only).
