Same Library, New Shelf Locations…
You may have noticed some big changes happening in the Huntington Library over the last week or so. We have started moving some things around as part of a project where the main goal is to create a brand new, dedicated space for our teen patrons. We are also moving all of the adult books to the same place so that you don’t have to go to different parts of the building to find fiction and non-fiction books.
Some of the outcomes of this project will be:
- A new location for the Teen space. This will be located just a bit down the hall from its current location. It will essentially be behind the booths closest to the meeting rooms and children’s area.
- This new space will feature new seating, a new program and art area, a space physically separated from the adult areas, and a new office with storage space for the Teen Librarian and Library Assistant.
- A new location for Teen books. They will be located just outside of the new teen space. This will allow teens to still have easy access but will also allow adults to browse the collection without having to be in the teen space.
- A new location for the Adult Services Desk and public computers. These will be relocated to where the teen area is currently.
- A new location for Adult Non-fiction books. These will be moved to be alongside the Adult Fiction collection.
- A new location for Adult DVDs, music, video games, and audiobooks. These will be where the Teen collection is currently located.
- New seating areas that will provide some additional work, study, and relaxing spaces for adults.
We are hoping to have this whole project complete by the end of the year.
In the meantime, things might be quite a mess and it might be a bit hard to find what you need. We will update a sign in the lobby if anything moves out of its regular area and we will update signs on all of the shelves to let you know where things are. As always, our staff are happy to help if you run into any trouble or just want help finding something.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. This will be a short-term pain for a long-term gain.
