The Huntington and Markle libraries will kick off this spring’s Paws to Read sessions this March. Huntington will have sessions each Saturday morning, where children who are learning to read can practice, judgment free, with a registered therapy dog. Markle’s sessions will be March 11th and 18th, as well as April 1st and 22nd. All sessions at both libraries require registration; call the Youth Services desk in Huntington at 260-356-0824 or the Information Desk at Markle at 260-758-3332 to register your child. Paws to Read is for children ages 6-12.
More often than not, it’s mothers who style and play with their young daughter’s hair. There’s no reason fathers can’t enjoy this time with their daughters, too, except that perhaps they’re not so good at styling hair. The Huntington Library is here to help! The library will hold a Daddy/Daughter Hair Fair Saturday, March 4th at 2pm. All dads and daughters are invited – as well as moms and sons, and anyone who wants to learn more about styling their young child’s hair! Basic hairstyles—like ponytails, buns and braids—will be covered and practiced, as well as hair care tips for a variety of hair types. Registration is not required, but those who plan to attend must bring their own hairbrush as this is a workshop involving participation.
The Huntington Library will also host a workshop for all around using the INSPIRE website Thursday, March 9th at 2pm.. All Indiana residents have access to INSPIRE, Indiana’s Virtual Online Library. INSPIRE is a collection of online academic and other information resources, full-text magazine and journal articles, websites, pamphlets, images, almanacs, full-text historic newspapers, multimedia, library catalogs, and much more. In most cases, INSPIRE provides cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts of all articles that appear in every periodical with the exception of some newspapers. The library’s workshop will cover how to navigate all this information, and is especially geared towards homeschooling parents or teachers. The program is limited to 24 attendees, so registration is required by calling 260-356-0824.
