Most who have or currently do live in Huntington are familiar with the names Chief Richardville and Chief LaFontaine. While many of us learned about them in school or from history books, a program October 19th at the Huntington Library will let you learn about them from a direct descendant. “Letter from Catherine” will take place at 6pm, and will feature a letter by Catherine Richardville, the daughter of Chief Richardville and wife of Chief LaFontaine, read aloud by Sue Strass, Catherine’s great great granddaughter. She will read the letter—which features many references to local and general Miami history— as a monologue, with a display of family and Miami artifacts and a Q & A session afterwards. The program is geared towards teens and adults.
The Indiana Room will have staff at the Markle Library’s History Room from 1-4pm the first Tuesdays of October, November, and December to help you with all of your local history questions and needs! Whether you are looking for information on local history or wish to start your family tree, the Indiana Room staff will be available on-site to kick off your research, using both printed and digital resources. All ages are welcome!
