It can often be tricky to find volunteer opportunities in the community. It frequently means going door to door, checking individual groups and agencies to see what’s available. The Huntington Library aims to make this easier by hosting a Volunteer Fair from 10am-12pm Saturday, September 17th. Community organizations will have tables set up, allowing those interested in volunteering to see what each group has available and where they need the most help. Organizations participating (but not limited to) include the Literacy Coalition of Huntington County, City Services and Parks Department of Huntington, United Way, Purdue Extension, Habitat for Humanity, YWCA, and The American Red Cross — with more groups signing up each day. The volunteer options are geared towards teens and adults.
September is also Library Card Signup Month, and local organizations are giving discounts to those who present their library cards while visiting. Any time during September, You can show your library card to a variety of Huntington and Markle area businesses to receive a discount. To see which discounts are being offered, visit the library’s website at http://hctpl.info/card-discounts, which will be updated throughout the month. Anyone who lives in the city of Huntington, the Township of Huntington, the town of Markle, or is a student or full-time teacher or administrator in the HCCSC school system qualifies for a library card at no extra charge.
