The Huntington and Markle Libraries will continue their fall Paws to Read sessions this year on Saturday mornings in October and November. Paws to Read is a time for children to read aloud to registered therapy dogs in a fun and relaxed environment. Children reading to therapy dogs nationwide show improved reading skills, improved self-esteem, feel pride in their accomplishments and find reading more enjoyable. There will be multiple sessions in Huntington each month, and Markle will hold sessions on October 22nd and November 12th. To sign up for a slot during a session, call either the Huntington Library at 260-356-2900 or the Markle Library at 260-758-3332, depending on the location you prefer. The program is for ages 6-12.
Join the Markle Library for a night celebrating Hoosier-born poet and author Gene Stratton-Porter. On Saturday, October 1st at 2pm, Indiana Poet Laureate Shari Wagner will share Stratton-Porter’s poems and Markle resident Vickie Kibellus will perform a monologue in the character of Stratton-Porter in this fantastic celebration of Markle and Indiana. All ages are invited and the program is free.
