April is packed with exciting parties and contests for children and teens at the Huntington and Markle libraries. On April 1st at 6:30pm, kids grades 1-6 are invited to our April Fools’ Day party at the Huntington Library! Wear your clothes inside out or don’t match, wear different socks on each foot, bring your favorite magic trick to show everyone, and enter our Exaggerators Contest with your craziest exaggeration! The party will also feature games and refreshments, in addition to whatever wacky tricks and games you bring along.
Children and teens can enter our Bookmark Designing and Bookstacking Contests at either the Huntington or Markle libraries. For grades 1-12, the Bookmark Designing Contest will run April 13-May 16. All supplies will be provided, and bookmarks must be designed inside the library. Designs should follow this year’s Summer Reading Program theme — Superheroes — and a winning design from each age group will be selected and printed for patrons to keep and use during the Summer Reading Program itself!
Children and teens grades K-12 are also invited to test their bookstacking skills in our annual Bookstacking Contest at the Huntington Library. Teens grades 6-12 can participate any weekday in April from 9am-5pm, and children grades K-5 can participate any time from 4:15-5:30pm April 16th. Whoever can stack the most books in 3 minutes for each age group will win a prize! Registration is not required for any of these events, but feel free to call the Children’s and Young Adult Departments at 356-2900 for more information.
