Psi Iota Xi Sorority and Huntington City-Township Public Library invite children in the community to a special Polar Bear Story Time and Craft to be held at 6 pm on Monday, January 14th at the Main Library in Huntington. Children ages preschool to Grade 2 may come to listen to stories about polar bears and other arctic animals, and participate in a make-and-take craft. This is a free event – all materials will be provided, and refreshments will be served. Registration is appreciated – please call the Children’s Department at 356-2900 to register your child. Huntington City-Township Public Library will offer a free eBooks & eAudios How-To & Troubleshooting Workshop from 6:30 – 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at the Main Library, 255 West Park Drive, Huntington. Interested patrons should bring their reading or listening device, a laptop (if your device requires it to download items) and any questions they may have. Registration is appreciated – call the Main Library at 260-356-0824.
HCTPL currently offers eAudiobooks and eBooks, which Library patrons can check out and download anytime, anywhere by visiting the library’s website at www.huntingtonpub.lib.in.us. Patrons may browse the digital collection, check out items with a valid library card and six-digit PIN, and download them to a PC, Mac®, and to most mobile devices, including the iPad, iPod, iPhone, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Sony eReader, Android-based tablet, and most smartphones. Some audio titles can also be burned to CD to listen on-the-go. There are no late fees: Titles automatically expire at the end of the lending period, and expired titles may simply be deleted from the patron’s device.
Huntington City-Township Public Library has partnered with six other public libraries in northeast Indiana to form a consortium called the Northeast Indiana Digital Library (NIDL). By combining resources and creating a shared digital collection, these seven libraries have maximized their buying power to provide the greatest possible variety for their patrons at the lowest cost. Other member libraries in the NIDL consortium include Berne Public Library, Eckhart Public Library in Auburn, Fremont Public Library, Nappanee Public Library, North Manchester Public Library, and Wells County Public Library in Bluffton.
Huntington City-Township Public Library invites kids & teens in grades 6-12 to test their mettle at Chess Time, to be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, January 29 at the Main Library, 255 West Park Drive, Huntington. Teens can play practice games to build their strategy skills, and then enter a chess tournament if they wish, supervised by tournament director Jack Oberholtzer. (Depending on number of participants, tournament play may be concluded on a later date.) The program is open to everyone ages 12 – 18 who enjoys playing chess. Snacks will be provided, and there is no charge to attend. Registration is a MUST – call the Main Library at 356-2900 if you’d like to participate!
